I've reached a place where I'm still trying to find of the right example for a point I want to make. In the process of thinking about this, it occurred to me that an Etch A Sketch may be good tool for teaching kids about vector spaces.
All easily demonstrated: vectors, space, orthogonality, magnitude, direction, span, linear combination, linear independence and probably many other concepts too.
